Use PopUp Surf Trips inside Claude

PopUp Surf Trips watches 138 surf spots across the Americas and the Caribbean on a 16-day forecast and matches good surf windows to your own profile: your skill level, the biggest wave you are comfortable on, water temperature, home airport and budget. Connect it to Claude and you can ask for your matched trips in a chat, see why each one matched, watch a spot, or change a wave preference, without opening the site.

What you need

  • A PopUp Surf Trips account with your surfer profile filled in. It is free. Create one here if you do not have one yet; the profile takes about three minutes.
  • A Claude account that can add connectors.

Connect it in two minutes

  1. In Claude, open Connectors (under Customize or Settings) and find PopUp Surf Trips in the directory. If it is not listed for you, choose Add custom connector and paste this server address, leaving every other field blank:
    https://popupsurftrips.com/api/connector/v1/mcp
  2. Claude sends you to popupsurftrips.com/connect. Sign in with your PopUp Surf Trips account. The page lists what Claude will be allowed to do and says you will be sent back to Claude.
  3. Press Allow. You are returned to Claude with the connector ready.
  4. In a new chat, open the + menu, choose Connectors, and switch on PopUp Surf Trips. Then ask: Any surf trips lining up for me?

Claude runs the read-only parts (your trips, your profile, the spot list) without asking each time. Before anything that changes your account, such as watching a spot or raising your max wave height, Claude asks you to confirm.

Prompts that work

Plain language is fine. These are the ones we test with:

  • “Any surf trips lining up for me?”Your matched trips, best first: spot, dates, wave size, the fare from your airport and the reason it matched.
  • “Why did it match me with the first one?”The Match Score factors for that trip: swell, your skill level, wave size against your limits, fare against your budget.
  • “Where can I stay for the first one?”Budget, mid and higher-end places for those exact dates, plus a camp when the spot has one.
  • “Which day is the best day?”Useful when the window runs longer than the trip you want. You pick your own dates inside it.
  • “Watch Pavones for me”Claude asks you to confirm, then PopUp Surf Trips emails you when a window lines up there.
  • “Raise my max wave height to 9 ft”Claude asks you to confirm, then updates that one preference on your profile.

What a trip is

A match is a dated surf window, not a fixed-length holiday. It runs from the day before the first good surf day to the day after the last, so it is as long as the swell lasts, often four to six nights and sometimes ten or more. The flight and stay prices Claude shows are for the full window; if you travel for fewer days, ask which day is best and price your own dates from the handoff links.

Only trips leaving within about ten days are shown, and every trip is checked against the forecast before it appears. If Claude says nothing is lining up, that is a true answer for today: your profile is matched again every three days, and you are emailed when a window appears. You do not need to keep asking.

What it can read and change

When you connect, you grant these four permissions. They are the only ones the connector has:

  • See your matched surf trips and preferences. Your trips, your profile, your watched spots and the spot list.
  • Update your wave and flight preferences. Skill level, min and max wave height, water temperature floor, wave type, home and secondary airport, trip length, max flight cost.
  • Watch or unwatch surf spots for you.
  • Run a fresh match on demand. Paid plans only; free accounts are matched automatically every three days.

It never changes your phone number, text-message consent, email address, name or password, and it cannot book anything. Those stay on your Profile page and the booking sites.

Booking links

When you ask where to stay or how to get there, Claude gives you links that open the airline, the stay or the surf camp page in your browser. Opening a link books nothing; you complete any booking on that site, under its terms. Claude may show a confirmation before opening an outside link. Some stay and camp links are affiliate links, which is how PopUp Surf Trips makes money; the price you pay is the same.

Disconnect at any time

  • On PopUp Surf Trips: Profile → Connected apps → Disconnect next to Claude. Access ends immediately.
  • In Claude: remove the connector from your Connectors list.

Disconnecting does not delete your account or your trips; your alerts by email and text carry on as before.

Other assistants

The server address above speaks the Model Context Protocol, so any assistant that can add an MCP connector with sign-in can use it the same way. The sign-in page names the assistant you are connecting, and your Profile lists each one separately.
